School of Arts Communication and Languages

Client
Erin Denney, Dean of the School of Arts, Communication, and Languages at the City College of San Francisco
For this project, I was tasked with

Designing a Logo for City College of San Francisco’s School of Arts, Communication, and Languages (ACL).

THE GOAL was to create a logo that would appeal to current and prospective students while embodying the school’s values of creativity, empowerment, and innovation.

Solution

The ACL logo brings art, communication, and language together in a simple, creative design. I used clean shapes and a balanced color palette to make it approachable and easy to recognize. The design is flexible enough to work across different platforms while still feeling unique and meaningful. It’s a logo that represents connection, interdisciplinary nature, and creativity of the different departments—perfect for ACL’s mission to inspire and engage through art and language.

Concept Thumbnails

These thumbnails show my brainstorming process, exploring different ways to visually represent ACL's colleges of arts, communication, and languages.

Digital Iterations

I transformed my sketches into digital concepts, refining shapes, and typography to ensure the design was clear, and balanced.

Color Exploration

I focused on three styles: monochromatic, transparency-based, and complementary palettes. Each approach highlighted a different aspect of the school’s identity, showcasing versatility while ensuring the colors aligned with its mission and values.

Final Logo Design

The client selected the logo for its balance of creativity, clarity, versatility, and unity in representing the college departments. To ensure consistent application, I developed a detailed logo guideline, including usage rules, color specifications, and scaling standards, maintaining the logo's impact and alignment with ACL's mission.
